That is why the Automotive Trades Foundation partnered with Montgomery County public schools and businesses to give students a unique hands-on learning experience where the students learn how to fix and sell cars. The program has inspired generations of students to work in the automotive industry.
Baltimore City Fire Department gets $10 million in funding
BALTIMORE - First responders devote their lives to keeping the members of the community safe. Baltimore City Mayor Brandon Scott announced that $10 million of the American Rescue Plan Act will go to the city’s fire department. Part of that money is earmarked for firefighter safety and renovating their fire stations.
Home-schooled students get an out-of-this-world learning experience
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The College Park Aviation Museum hosted its spring home-school day. The event gives students an opportunity they don't usually get: to work with different teachers and experience a classroom-like setting with other students. The students got to hear from space professionals and learn about how they communicate with spacecraft.
SBA offers more aid to businesses impacted by the Key Bridge collapse
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. - It has been two weeks since the Key Bridge collapsed, and businesses are beginning to feel the economic impact. To help those most affected by the collapse, the Small Business Administration opened another Business Recovery Center in Anne Arundel County. There are now three centers in the surrounding areas of the bridge.
Children with disabilities benefit from a program that focuses on building athletic and social skills
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A non-profit group in the DMV offers young people with disabilities a chance to participate in recreational and athletic activities. With 54 monthly sessions across the greater DC area, the group serves 500 participants. It is an opportunity for children with disabilities to participate in fun activities they would normally not be able to.
Howard County wants to save more people from sudden cardiac arrest
HOWARD COUNTY, Md.- For every minute someone is in sudden cardiac arrest, their chance of survival decreases by seven to ten percent. Howard County is working to save more lives. The County is partnering with SaveStation, a Canadian company that makes containers to house AEDs so that they are available in outdoor public places. On Feb. 27, the county added the first of seventeen outdoor SaveStation AEDs at Meadowbrook Park.
New plan to stop youth violence and crime in Prince George’s County, Maryland
PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. - Calvin Hawkins, a Prince George’s County council member, is teaming up with Young Mindz Inc. to put an end to youth violence and crime in the county. Young Mindz Inc. is a non-profit which works with returning citizens and the youth in the community in a four-prong program, which helps both create a life for themselves. Both Hawkins and Young Mindz Inc. think going straight to the source is the solution to fixing this problem.
