From Africa: Pathways to the NBA
In a beach town on the west coast of Senegal, sits a basketball academy, attended by the most promising players in Africa. Through the eyes of the NBA Academy Africa’s players and staff, “From Africa” details their stories of hours of work on the court and in the classroom, the brotherhood they’ve built, and their pursuit to make it to the NBA.
This film was Co-Directed and Edited by myself and Jenna Bloom, and presented by the University of Maryland's Philip Merrill College of Journalism's Shirley Povich Center for Sports Journalism. It is viewable at https://cnsmaryland.org/2024/12/11/from-africa-pathways-to-the-nba/
It was filmed while on the Povich Center's two-week study abroad trip the Rwanda and Senegal. The actual film was filmed and reported over three days at the NBA Academy Africa. Along with creating the documentary, I also produced written and video stories covering the Basketball Africa League Finals and the work the NBA is doing to grow the sport in Rwanda and on the entire continent.
